About us

Welcome to the Ellwood Volunteer Fire Department

The Ellwood Volunteer Fire Department (Dist. 1) was founded in 1921 by citizens of the Town of Tonawanda. Since its founding, the department has served the greater Town of Tonawanda, Amherst, Buffalo, and Grand Island areas providing community outreach, fire prevention, and fire protection services.

The fire company has one fire hall, located at 1000 Englewood Avenue in the Town of Tonawanda. The department owns eight fire apparatus, including one squad/rescue, two engines, one ladder, one utility vehicle, two chief's vehicles, and an antique fire engine; those can be viewed on our Apparatus Page.

Those fire apparatus are operated by our 40 active members, all of whom receive local and state training to continue improving and evolving firefighting tactics.
